The Controls Software Engineer will be responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing advanced Smart Building control solutions for clients and potential clients. This position will play a key role in evaluating and helping design retrofit controls that deliver significant Return on Investment (ROI) opportunities for customers. The person will be one of the key technical system engineers and will develop and document designs and partner with multiple departments to help get projects installed in the field. This role will include, but is not limited to, integrating disparate building control systems, leveraging strong HVAC/lighting and building automation system knowledge to develop ROI focused solutions for national accounts, and developing expertise in the existing business processes and tools.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with SBC Manager, Systems Engineering and other engineers on the SBC team to design and develop control systems for specific projects
- Draft and develop technical requirements for SBC programs and projects
- Program BMS primary and field controllers
- Develop and program BMS user interfaces
- Help develop controls proposals in daily operations with the Customer Solutions Group
- Maintain a library of standards on behalf of national account customers
- Perform systems integrations using a wide variety of protocols including basic software
- Ensure technologies are integrated and technically compliant per applicable standards
- Communicate results to Controls Manager, Systems Engineering and others
- Work collaboratively with a team of Controls personnel
- Set high standards that will align with the organization’s goals
- Assist internal and external IT networking teams
Skills and Abilities:
- An understanding of IT networks, systems, and protocols
- Technical proficiencies in A/C electrical circuits and low voltage D/C electrical circuits and operation
- Ability to read and interpret blue-prints, wiring diagrams and device data sheets, as well as, familiarity with creating technical shop drawings, including riser diagrams
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Strong technical and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of Industry best practices
- Superior knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Lighting and Hardware Systems
- Programming proficiency with Niagara based systems, including but not limited to N4
Skills and Abilities:
- Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering and/or another related field
Experience Preferred/Other Qualifications:
- Experience with Niagara software and computer coding languages such as JavaScript, HTML
- Experience with AutoCAD and other similar type programs used to create shop drawings
- LED lighting, HVAC and building management system (BMS) operation
- 5+ years of system engineer or system integrator with experience with at least one (1) controls platform
- 5+ years in the building automation systems industry
- 5+ years of HVAC Automation/Controls Engineering or Data Analytics experience
- Expertise leveraging IoT Concepts and Technology, Building Automation Systems, and Database programming
- Salary around $100 - $120K + 15% Bonus, depending on experience and education
